Dangerous items: why give them to a child

Of course, you know how to use a juicer and that you can’t put your fingers in the socket. You know that this world is not so simple, that it is dangerous and how to get around it. You also know that you cannot do without conditionally dangerous things, and therefore you need to be able to use them. All this knowledge was not given to you initially, are you aware of? Now your child has come to this world and knows very little about him and your main task is to tell, show, direct, help and teach him to learn and learn about the world around himself. Of course, without danger to themselves and others.

Thousands of scientific articles and books are devoted to sensory child development, becauseit is on the interaction of the child with the world through adults and further on independently that its full development depends. This is the basis for: intellectual development, the development of imagination, the ordering of information obtained from the outside world, affects the development of memory and attention, prepares for the realities of life.

Make the child’s living space (home) safe. At the same time - do not bend the stick, because you will not keep him all your life in a room with soft walls :)

From the first days of life, the child learns about the world around him by sound and smell.Having found at least some opportunity to move independently, the child begins to pull everything in his mouth, trying to bite or tear, throw on the floor- studying the reaction of the subject - breaks or bounces, rumples, pushes and so on. So begins his interaction with dangerous and conditionally dangerous objects, and from this age you need to teach the child to use them.

Some children are more curious and for them, what is said, you need an eye and an eye. Others are assiduous and are content with the proposed toys, not trying to find out what is behind the fragile, shiny things on the top shelf. But with those and with other children it is necessary to study objects and their properties, not forbidding to touch anything besides his toys, but also not allowing him to take everything that comes to mind.

So, how to teach a child from childhood to divide objects into "dangerous" and "safe", to use them without harm to health? Our expert, the children's psychologist of the center “City of happy children”, Natalia Pashko, tells:

“In childhood, knowledge of the world occurs in close cooperation with an adult, and if the parent always responds to the child’s request, even as a teenager, an independent adult, he first asks if he calls the parents (specialists, familiar doctors, experienced elders, etc.) will face something unknown and conditionally dangerous.

When a child separates from his mother, crawls, tries to walk, he first tastes things, tactile. An adult, interacting with the child, explains that there are safe and dangerous objects. ANDthe child learns and learns, focusing on an adult, his emotions* understands that everything is not safe in the outside world. When a child is small, it is difficult for him to feel the danger - this is a tactile experience. The role of parents is to provide him with this experience without danger, using special toys, plastic models of real objects, pictures, books».

* For example: mother's reaction, her concerned tone, hail, etc. indicates that there is a certain danger in the handling of this particular item or in this particular situation.

«With age, the child begins to understand the causal relationship.: if you prick with a needle, it will be painful, if you cut yourself - blood will go, if you reach the included plate, you can get burned. From 3.5 to 4 years old, the child begins to learn how to use objects: the parent learns to use the scissors, the knife, the fork with the child. When children study professional categories, it becomes interesting for them to do what their parents do: how dad digs in the car, or how mom prepares food. In this caseYou can not deprive the child of the opportunity to get this experience: play in the kitchen, cut vegetables together for salad, let them hold the wrench or show how the engine is arrangedby telling what's hot and you can get burned. During these games it is important to maintain the independence of his actions, not to criticize. The range of subjects that the child will manipulate will constantly expand, which means that parents will have to constantly play the role of instructors in the use of one or another subject (the same role is assigned to future teachers in kindergarten and school).

The child must understand that there are things that are used strictly for the intended purpose.: a knife only for cutting, a hammer only for dad :) If we are talking about chemical preparations, medicines and the like, they certainly should be kept out of the reach of children.
